I'm sorry, you can't honestly believe that the company is going to actually put the 200% profit they just made due to this crisis back to their stores for the good of the citizens???? As for raising the prices to deter people from taking as much...I don't think so. The reason that manager hiked the price is because he KNOWS that whoever is actually stopping at his station is because they had NO other choice and if they don't fill up to full they will NOT make it to the next one. Especially if the traffic is that congested and you end up using a full tank of gas in just 5 MILES!!!! It may have not been the head of the corporation's fault, but they are certainly not going to say..."Give the money back". Now, it is very likely that is was a small station owned by a single owner and well, in my opinion he just needs to be taken out behind the station and shot! But the bigwigs like WalMart aren't very far from the same attitude as that single owner. They may not be "gouging" but they ain't trying to help either. As for HEB being out...I think they are secure enough money wise and more importantly helpful enough to take the hit of a couple days of no gas sales just so that those that are on the run from Rita can save money so they can rebuild when this is all over. It never made since to me why people price things so high that nobody can buy...if they price it lower the volume of sales will easily balance the lowered price and you get repeat business that way.
