My diet

I've had a few people ask what diet I'm on.  I first heard about it and all it's greatness from [profile] kulilinei  and [profile] knighthorse.  This is the site that was provided.  http://www.womentowomen.com/detoxification/detoxdiet.aspx

I started on Monday with the real quick I-don't-care-it's-our-1st-anniversary slip on Monday evening at the Melting Pot.  By the way...SO WORTH THE SLIP!!!!  Anyway, I've been doing great on this detox cleansing diet.  I'm doing the strictest, in other words started out with all three levels eliminated.

I'm planning to stay strictest until this next Sunday and then will start introducing some things back in slowly.  Like vinegar for salad dressings and meat. :D  Actually I could probably stay like that for a really long time with the occasional feta cheese on my salads (I DO miss the feta) and maybe a dessert or two per month.  I've been doing off and on carb dieting for a loooooonnnnngggg time so cutting out the breads and sweets has been a fairly established habit now.

So far, the only side effect I've had is I realize I do need to get some fiber supplements, being feeling a bit tired at first but actually been getting better everyday and all last week I've had this low grade headache.  But that is finally starting to wane off.  Yeah!!

I've been tempted with cookies on Thursday evening but though the smell was stronger than normal (like fresh out of oven strong but they are so not fresh) and yesterday at the Alamo Drafthouse seeing the pizzas and the Little One's root beer float being consumed so close to me, I still didn't cave into the urge to just take a taste.  Smells weren't as strong this time.  Go figure.

Anyway, I'm really happy with this detoxing diet.  I can't wait to see if I can eat pomangranite again without feeling like I'm getting a UTI or pain in my stomach like someone is trying to dig it's way out of that stomach.  And the bigger thing....I'VE ALREADY LOST 5LBS BABEEEEEE!!!! :D :D

Thank you [profile] kulilinei  &  [profile] knighthorse!!!!  *BIG HUGS*

So...trying something out for salad dressing.

3/4 cup greek olive oil
3 tablespoons water
3 tablespoons lemon juice
a skimpy 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
1/4 teaspoon of black pepper
3 cloves garlic (sliced and then partially grounded by pestle & mortar)
half stalk of green onion (sliced to root and then partially grounded by pestle & mortar)
2 medium leaves of fresh basil (sliced and then partially grounded by pestle & mortar)
10 smallish leaves of fresh rosemary (partially grounded by pestle & mortar)
1/4 teaspoon of dried parsley (grounded by pestle & mortar)

I did all the slicing and cutting and grinding first and put it in glass.  Then poured the lemon juice in the mortar bowl and swished it around then poured it into the salad dressing glass.  Oil & water followed.

At this moment the finger tasting did not make me run for bathroom like last night's almost did.

So...I attempted to make a ranch without milk or mayonnaise or any dairy product.
I found a non-dairy one and in learning what mayonnaise is made out of...thought hey I can makeshift mayonnaise and for the soymilk I'll do olive oil.

Original recipe for those that can eat all the good stuff:

1 cup mayonnaise
1 1/2 teaspoons lemon juice
7 1/2 tablesppons soymilk
1/2 teaspoon dried chives
1/2 teaspoon dried dill weed
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper

My makeshift recipe:

1 cup coddled egg whites (to coddle an egg in microwave: cook egg white for about 25 seconds so that it's cooked but still very runny)
1 1/2 teaspoons lemon juice
7 1/2 tablesppons olive oil (this might have been the big factor in my "oops")
1/2 teaspoon dried chives
1/2 teaspoon dried dill weed
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper

Blended it with a hand held blender and tasted...very little ranch taste and lots of olive oil taste.  Scrith suggested that maybe if I added more lemon juice?

After searching for vinegar free salad dressing I've pulled a somewhat good sized list.

The salad dressing that I've set up for the last two days is:

2 tablespoons of olive oil (greek extra virgin)
1 clove of thinly sliced garlic
2 1/2 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice
1 tablespoon of thyme and a dash of parsley

I did double this.  Result...it's a great salad dressing if you like the strong tang of lemon.  For me, next time, instead of 5 tablespoons of lemon juice I'll cut back to the 2.5 tablespoons of lemon juice and 2.5 tablespoons of water.

And for experimenting, I just made a quick non-creamy kind of pesto for the buffalo burger and gluten-free shells.  Now the oil and lemon juice I did measure.  The others I eye-balled it and so am kinda guessing at the amount.  Try at your own risk. ;)

Pesto??

1/2 c.  greek oil
1/4 c.  lemon juice
1/4 tsp  parsley
1/2 - 3/4 tsp  Italian seasoning
1/8 tsp  lemon pepper
1/2 - 3/4  garlic powder
1/4 - 1/2 tsp  sea salt  (sea salt is way milder than normal salt.  I will be adding more to my meal when I dish it up onto my plate)

In taste testing I think it's not half bad at all.  We'll see what the other two critics think when they get home.

Enjoy! :D

*edit*  Well...according to the other two, [profile] scrithand Little One, it was great.  They loved it and Little One even licked the bowl a bit.  Me?  Appearently, I still can't taste herbs.  I've always noticed that parsley and cilantro and even italian seasoning is very bland to me.  I can smell it just fine, but taste...nada.  And, no, I'm not a salt-a-holic.  Yes, I add butter salt to popcorn at the movies (last time saw movie was like a month ago).  I add salt to the saltless chips at the mexican resturants.  But I don't add any salt to salads or eggs like I used to or onto much anything else.  Trust me when I say I've cut back on my salt intake.
So...what spices are there out in the whole wide world that actually have more flavor then small leaves but doesn't scald my mouth like redpepper.  I just need more flavor!!!!  Help?

Today I'm gonna go shopping for the food that I'll be allowed to eat for the next two weeks.  Out of all that I can have on my diet the only thing that I think will be the hardest is drinks.  I'm just not a tea or fruit juice drinker.  But, if this diet that [profile] knighthorse  and [profile] kulilinei  recommended works then not only will I be losing some weight, but maybe even start being able to eat pomengranite again without punishment and do tea more constantly without punishment.  My last diet coke was Friday afternoon.  I only drank two of them.  Saturday and today I had one cup of green tea.  This morning's is the last bit of caffiene I'll have for the next two weeks.  OIY!!

Anyway, I'll be starting the diet tomorrow.  [profile] knighthorse, if you actually are able to make wheat free bread, I'll HAPPILY buy a loaf from ya.

I'm actually gonna start trying to make homemade salad dressings.  Dry salad is just so not yummy.

Wish me luck!!!! :D
